Tony Shayne Hebson was born October 22, 1947 in Sylacauga Alabama. His undergraduate degree was a B.A. from Samford University. He obtained his law degree in 1978 from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University.
Mr. Hebson served almost four years in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Officer rising to the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
Mr. Hebson did primarily insurance defense work from 1978 until 1990. Since 1990, his practice has been almost exclusively for the plaintiff concentrating primarily in personal injury litigation.
Mr. Hebson is admitted to practice before all the State courts of Alabama, the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Alabama, the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, and the United States Court of Claims.
Mr. Hebson has taught for several years at the Birmingham School of Law and was the author of the 2000 supplement to The Alabama Rules of Civil Procedure by Justice Champ Lyons.
Mr. Hebson is an experienced litigator with several hundred jury and non-jury trials to his credit. He has been involved with 19 verdicts or settlements in favor of the plaintiff in excess of one million dollars.
Mr. Hebson has been married to the former Wyna Lavas since 1977. They have two sons, and a daughter-in-law. Cam, the eldest son is a physician practicing pediatric medicine at Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia. His wife, Carolyn practices ophthalmology also at Emory. The youngest son Ryan is currently a senior in law school at Tulane University. When his sons were younger, Mr. Hebson was active in their sports. He was President of the Hoover Athletic Association in 1989-1990 and coached several years in baseball, basketball and football.
Mr. Hebson is very active in his church, Shades Mountain Baptist Church. He has been an ordained deacon since 1980. He sings in the Adult Choir and has been a featured soloist on many occasions.
